Grim Reaper’s Steve Grimmett is Back on Stage After Leg Amputation
Almost exactly six months ago, news broke that Grim Reaper vocalist Steve Grimmett had become ill and needed to go to the hospital after a show in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It turned out that an aggressive infection in his foot spread to the bones in his leg, requiring it to be amputated twice: first below the knee, then again above, after which he was forced to stay in an Ecuadorian hospital for a whole month while recovering. None of this stopped him from maintaining high spirits, clad in smiles and proud of the single most metal prosthetic leg ever. He returned home on February 16th and received his new leg on April 28th.
On Friday July 14th, precisely six months to the date of his initial infection, Grimmett returned to the stage in Balingen, Germany, at the Bang Your Head!!! festival, working between his leg and a wheelchair. Here’s a fan-filmed video of Grim Reaper playing “Fear No Evil” live at the fest:
But Steve doesn’t finish at Balingen: Grim Reaper will be playing a few more sporadic shows in Europe through the end of the year which you can find here.
Steve’s tenacity is admirable, his optimism is impressive, and it’s a joy to see how much he loves being back on stage.
