Teen Metalhead Who Got a Guitar from His Recently Deceased Father Also Gets $16,000 from Reddit Users, a New Guitar, and to Meet Alice Cooper
In a rare demonstration of not being a cesspool for the worst people on earth, the Internet has rallied behind Johnny Crow.
In case you’ve somehow forgotten already: Johnny recently received a Dean Razorback for his sixteenth birthday… a special gift which took on even greater significance since it came from his dad, who ordered the guitar in January before passing away from a heart attack in April. Video of Johnny receiving the gift as a surprise went viral and increased Kleenex sales 1,000,000%.
After the video became a sensation, the owner of Port Huron Music Center and Grove Mall, where the guitar was purchased, invited Reddit users to donate money for Johnny’s guitar lessons via PayPal.
They ended up with more than $16,000 in donations.
I’ll just let that sink in for a moment.
Apparently, the shop’s owner has now put the Crow family together with a lawyer to figure out the best way to handle the Internet’s incredible generosity. Although Johnny can now clearly afford the finest guitar lessons the world has to offer a high school kid.
As if all that wasn’t enough, another Reddit user has purchased another guitar for Johnny — this time a sweet Jackson King V. And somehow, there’s even MORE: upon learning that Johnny will soon be attending an Alice Cooper concert, Cooper’s guitarist, Nita Strauss, arranged for Johnny to come backstage at the show and meet Alice.
Aaaaannnndddd we’re all crying again.
Internet, I’m so proud of you for living up to your potential of being a loving, caring community and not just a place where you can call people horrible names for daring to have a difference in opinion from yourself. Keep up the good work!!!
