Video: Anthrax’s Charlie Benante Performs with Fifth Graders at School Variety Show

Mikey Goldberg and Grayson Perri, fifth grade students at Kildeer Elementary School and classmates with eleven-year-old Mia Benante, were recently able to enlist Mia’s dad to play drums for their performance at the school variety show. And in case her last name somehow doesn’t give it away, Mia’s dad is not just so dude with a kit in his garage he uses to blow off steam; he’s Charlie goddamn Benante.

Benante, adorned in a shirt paying homage to the recently deceased Carrie Fisher, performed Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” and The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation” with the youngsters. Then he took a drum solo to remind all the parents in the audience that he’s cooler than they are.

Kidding aside, it’s beyond great that Benante did this. These youngsters may never have the opportunity to play with such a great drummer again. Unless they somehow wind up jamming with Joey Belladonna, of course.
