Listen to Eighteen Visions’ New Song, “Crucified”
We’ve had such a spectacular run of satisfying reunions in the past ten years that it was inevitable there’d be a letdown sooner or later. Everyone from Carcass to Alice in Chains to At the Gates to Faith No More came back and came back strong; we were statistically due for a bummer.
Enter the reunited Eighteen Visions.
“Oath,” the first single from their new album, XVIII, was fine, but nothing special. And now “Crucified,” another song from that same album, is… fine but nothing special.
The two songs basically have the same issue: they’re without a strong hook. Which wouldn’t be a big deal if Eighteen Visions were Portal or Psyopus, but an avant-garde act they ain’t. Like I said, the song isn’t bad… but I’d be shocked if you remembered it following the conclusion of its brief runtime. Put another way: if Eighteen Visions were a new band, would anyone care about this music? Again, I doubt it.
As always, I encourage you to listen for yourself and make up your own mind. You can check out the track below, courtesy of Loudwire. XVIII comes out June 2 on Rise. You can pre-order it here.
