At the Gates are Demoing New Material, Pressing on as a Four-Piece

0

When At the Gates announced earlier this year that founding guitarist and chief songwriter Anders Björler had left the band, I think everyone assumed that they’d add someone to fill those shoes. We even proposed seven suitable candidates ourselves.

And while the band still can (and likely will, I’d wager) add someone to thicken up their sound for live shows, At the Gates are soldiering on as a four-piece while creating their next record. The band posted a couple of photos on Instagram within the past week showing a screen shot of a demo track and split photos of all four remaining band members, indicating that a) new material is now in the demo phase, and b) it will be recorded by only four people.

Take a look, via Metal Injection:

As we’ve noted before, Anders shared songwriting credits on every song on Terminal Spirit Disease, Slaughter of the Soul, and At War with Reality with his brother Jonas, AtG’s bassist. But putting full faith in one half of a very talented songwriting duo seems like a huge jump. Still, we can hope for the best — and we’ll hear the results soon enough. First half of 2018, if I had to guess.
