IKILLYA Battle the Cultural Justification of Sexual Abuse Against Women on “Betray Your Creator”
“Pure rage. That’s how we feel about cultural justification of rape,” IKILLYA vocalist Jason Lekberg tells ghostcultmag.com, explaining the band’s new song, “Betray Your Creator.” And that anger certainly comes through in the song, which may be the group’s most punishing to date. That the track has been released just a day after a bunch old rich white men decided that rape, domestic violence, C-sections, and postpartum depression can all be considered ‘pre-existing conditions’ by healthcare providers, is wholly appropriate. This is the anger outlet a lot of us needed today.
Check out “Betray Your Creator” via the below video, which was directed by Matt Brewster and Christoph Knie of Engine Room. IKILLYA’s new album, War for an Idea, comes out June 2 on Urban Yeti. Pre-order it here. The band is basically on tour from the end of May through late July — definitely don’t miss him when they come to your town. Dates are at the bottom of this post.
