Pearl Jam’s Jeff Ament (Sort Of) Lobbies for Metal Artists Like Judas Priest, Dio, and Slayer to Be Inducted Into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame
So Pearl Jam were inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame over the weekend, and the band’s bassist, Jeff Ament, decided to acknowledge some great artists who haven’t yet been inducted by wearing this:
Yes, his irritating fedora and fake neck tie were intended asa symbolic tribute to…
Just kidding. It’s actually the text on his shirt that matters:
In case it isn’t clear, what all of the artists listed on Ament’s shirt have in common is that they have thus far been overlooked by the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. As you can see, there are a number of metal bands included on the shirt, including Judas Priest, Motörhead, Dio, King Diamond, Slayer, Faith No More, Alice in Chains, Misfits, Melvins, Nine Inch Nails, and Mötley Crüe.
On the one hand, it was very cool of Ament to make an effort to recognize these folks. On the other hand, if Pearl Jam hadn’t posted that photo on ‘Gram, I dunno that anyone would ever have noticed. I know there are a LOT of great artists that thus far haven’t made into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame and it’s hard to pick just one… but a shirt that simply said ‘INDUCT JUDAS PRIEST’ or something probably would have been far more effective than a shirt with such small print that no one could read it anyway.
Still, Ament gets an B for effort. I’d give him an A, but Ted Nugent is also listed on the shirt while Iron Maiden are not, and that bullshit cannot be rewarded.
