Oregon’s own Norska (featuring members of Yob) are on the verge of releasing a new album called Too Many Winters, and the band just debuted a new single from that album called “Samhain.” Considering their last full release (Self-titled, 2012) was an undeniably epic entry of sludge with a bit of a progressive feel, I think its fair to count this amongst my most anticipated releases of the year.

The new track kicks off like Wile E. Coyote set off tens tons of dynamite at the Acme corporation, exploding into a mushroom cloud of sound before eventually evolving into a playful guitar riff that dances with a feel reminiscent of Blood Mountain-era Mastodon before taking its final form buried under a mountain of opera-esque vocals. Sounds like a lot, I know, but it’s part of what gives this track a really unique feel.

Too Many Winters was recorded by Toadhouse Recordings’ Adam Bradley Pike (Tool, Red Fang, Yob) and mastered by Billy Barnet of Gung Ho Studios (Yob). It’s being released on May 29th via Brutal Panda. You can pre-order it right here on LP, and here digitally.

As always, let us know what you think. Personally, I can’t wait to hear more.
