Video: That Time There Was an On-Stage Explosion During an Obituary Show
Today in “How is this not a common-knowledge story?”…
This video was originally put on YouTube by Broken Hope’s Jeremy Wagner, but came to our attention thanks to Monte Conner, who is at least the fourth most important person in metal. According to Wagner…
“Obituary, Sepultura, Sadus, Immolation and Broken Hope in Milwaukee, WI, Friday, December 7th 1990. Obituary was on tour and used some unauthorized pyro on stage during their classic song, ”Til Death.’ The pyro-pot malfunctioned and exploded like a nuclear bomb on stage. Part of the drum riser disintegrated and Donald Tardy’s left bass-drum caught on fire.”
Amazingly, no one was hurt, so we can laugh about this now. But the Jewish mother in me still feels the need to remind bands how bad things can get if you misuse unauthorized pyro. Just sayin’, Obituary were lucky in this case. Don’t try this at your next show, okay?
