Listen/Watch: Body Count’s “Black Hoodie” Demonstrates How Little U.S. Race Relations Have Changed Since the ’90s
“I’ve been talking about this shit for over twenty years,” Ice-T says at the beginning of Body Count’s new single, “Black Hoodie.” The truth of that statement hurts like a smack in the mouth. Not because we wish Ice-T would find a different topic to discuss — but because the need for him to say the things he says is still there. “Black Hoodie” is a spiritual little brother to the band’s infamous song “Cop Killer” with the perspective switched. We think we’ve made progress, but “Black Hoodie” reminds us how far we have to go.
“Black Hoodie” will appear on Body Count’s new album, Bloodlust, which comes out March 31 on Century Media. Pre-order it here.
