“Ambrosial”: Ghost Bath Wrote the Best Black Metal Song About Fruit Salad Ever
Someone recently said that Ghost Bath would be a lot better without the vocals (the singer’s name is 丹尼斯, or ‘Dennis’). I can’t remember who said it or in what context so I apologize for not giving this person their due, but I’ve been thinking about that assertion a lot lately and I think there may be something to it.
Case in point: the band’s new song “Ambrosial” (which isn’t really about fruit salad, I don’t think). Musically, it’s another excellent piece of atmospheric black metal. But some of Dennis’ vocals, like the high-pitched screams that appear early in the song, definitely teeter on the edge of being inadvertently comical. I don’t think they’re a deal breaker, but I do see that person who made the original comment about the vocals’ point.
Listen for yourself below and see what you think. “Ambrosial” will appear on Ghost Bath’s new album, Starmourner, which comes out April 21 on Nuclear Blast. Pre-order it here. The band also has some live dates with Amigo the Devil coming up. Get those here.
