Wintersun Have Crowdfunded $200,000 in Less Than Two Days
In case you missed it, Wintersun are attempting to crowdfund €750,000 (approximately $790,000) to build a new studio and fund the completion of their perpetually delayed album Time II. They are doing this in three increments, the first of which launched earlier this week and leverages their already complete stop-gap album The Forest Seasons by getting fans to pay a minimum of €50 for a special album release package.
Make of that what you will.
Just two days in, the initial crowdfunding campaign has smashed through its “safe goal” of €150,000 — the minimum necessary to issue the packages people are buying — and is well on its way to its ultimate goal of €250,000.
Make of that what you will.
Clearly the demand is there amongst Wintersun fans. The lack of new music, and the waiting, and the constant delays have made them rabid.
Will Wintersun be able to pull two more such crowdfunding campaigns to reach their ultimate goal of three-quarters-of-a-million Euros? Or will they have gone to the well of fan generosity too many times?
Further, how does Nuclear Blast — still the band’s label putting out their albums — feel about all of this? They haven’t been excited about it in the past.
What a weird fucking time we live in.
