Shit That Comes Out Today: February 24, 2017
Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams all for your jammage. Now crank this shit up!
·
Crystal Fairy
Crystal Fairy (Ipecac)
On a playlist with: Cult Of Luna & Julie Christmas, Castle, Demon Lung
Listen Crystal Fairy full stream (here)
A week like this week can be a bit stressful: So many heavy new releases arrive at the same time. After all, STCOT can spotlight six of the most newsworthy in these little capsules, but days like today bring more like 36 albums worthy of the honor. At least we get to link you to their jams below — usually full albums — and anyways six awesome new albums is plenty of good action over 52 fucking weeks a year. For example, here’s Crystal Fairy, which is dudes from the Melvins with the weirdest guy from At The Drive-In on bass and incredible vocals by the singer of that band Le Butcherettes. Awesome songs!
·
Rebel Wizard
Triumph Of Gloom (2016) (Prosthetic)
On a playlist with: The Crown, Waxen, Watain
Listen Triumph Of Gloom full stream (here)
Self-released last year and now issued by Prosthetic, Rebel Wizard’s Triumph Of Gloom is a cousin to one of last year’s best metal albums. It’s less harsh and more tuneful only to the extent that a snootful of sarin gas is easier to deal with than a palmload of VX gas. We’ve already tipped you twice to Rebel Wizard (here, here); consider this third notice our insistence.
·
King Woman
Created In The Image Of Suffering (Relapse)
On a playlist with: Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, Nothing, Myrkur
Listen Created In The Image Of Suffering full stream (here)
Let’s take a moment to second a motion I encountered on Twitter somewhere: Dear bands, fuck your teaser. To your fans, that 30 seconds of a song — or lamer, 30 seconds of each song — could be exciting for a bit I guess; for us six billion non-fans, it’s useless as underpants. Bands like King Woman eschew underpants, um so to speak, so the glorious Created In The Image Of Suffering can be experienced a few dozen times before we buy the album today. Which is the opposite of hearing a trailer and never buying the album ever. Crank it up!!!
·
Lethe
The First Corpse On The Moon (My Kingdom)
On a playlist with: The Gathering, Delirium, Lacuna Coil
Listen “The First Corpse On The Moon” (here) “Down Into The Sun” (here)
It’s not too flattering to a tiny underground metal band to be discussed in terms of a mid-level Hot Topic metal band, but STCOT is for MetalSucks readers, not for the bands. So it’s with heedlessness that we state that Lethe is awesome like Lacuna Coil if the latter’s dead-serious dorkiness were swapped for a witchy cool — excursions into trip-hop and all. Check out their 2014 album too!
·
Acceptance
Colliding By Design (Rise)
On a playlist with: Cave-In, Failure, Anberlin
Listen Colliding By Design full stream (here)
Sorry, may I repeat here that listed below are many, many more new releases that you would’ve loved to read about in STCOT. But we all can be thankful for good comments by readers like you, which push us down shortcuts to even more awesome new shit. Tip: Be sure to check stuff that seems outside your zone; that’s how you end up cranking stuff like emo-ass Acceptance’s comeback album Colliding By Design all freaking week. Awesome!
·
Sanctuary
Inception (Century Media)
On a playlist with: Overkill, Believer, Anthrax
Listen “Dream Of The Incubus” (here) “Die For My Sins” (here)
You may feel a bit suspicious of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and his producer credit on Sanctuary’s classic 1988 debut, Refuge Denied. After all, it’s weird that Megadeth ’80s albums were marred by production issues (or bad project management), yet Refuge stands tall decades later. And Mustaine admits that the creation of Megadeth’s 1988 album So Far, So Good … So What! suffered due to his party problems, while director Penelope Spheeris states that Mustaine’s condition nearly derailed the “No More Mr. Nice Guy” video that year. So how could he have aced the Sanctuary assignment? Well, this new collection of polished Refuge-era demos seems to validate those suspicions. These songs were release-ready from the jump. Case closed.
