Ghost Bath Announce New Album; Listen to the First Single Here
I’m beyond curious to see what the metal community’s reaction is to “Thrones,” the new single from Ghost Bath. From a musical standpoint, it starts off a fairly standard black metal song… and then at the 1:33 mark, it totally changes gears and basically becomes a metalcore song. A fairly upbeat metalcore song at that. And then the last minute or so of the song is… I’m not even sure what to call it. Meanwhile, the vocals, by the frontman known only as “Ghost Did It” “Nameless,” never change, which is to say, even when the music gets all metalcore-y, Nameless keeps howling like a banshee caught in a bear trap (if you told me he’s not saying anything but just screaming, I’d believe you).
If it sounds like I’m mocking the song, I’m really not. After a couple of listens, I’m still not sure how I feel about it; that first minute-and-a-half really hooked me, and once you get through the first minute of the happy metalcore part, that stuff all becomes really cool, too. I’m hoping that one minute, which is dominated by a high-pitched riff which screams “Let’s go to the beach and chase some babes!”, grows on me. I’m also hoping the types of people who give Suicide Silence shit for using clean vocals don’t immediately turn the song off when that section begins.
Check out “Thrones” for yourself below. It’s the debut single from the band’s new album, Starmourner, which comes out April 21 on Nuclear Blast, and can be pre-ordered here. The band also has some live dates with Amigo the Devil coming up. Get those at the bottom of this post.
