Artificial Brain Announce Natural New Album + Release for Real First Single
We live in weird times, and weird times call for weird music. So here comes Artificial Brain to the rescue: the self-proclaimed “sci-fi death metal quintet,” which counts Revocation guitarist Dan Gargiulo amongst its ranks, has announced that they’ll release their Colin Marston-produced sophomore album, Infrared Horizon, on April 21 via Profound Lore. Which would be exciting enough, but they’ve also released the first single from the album, “Synthesized Instinct.”
If you’re already familiar with Artificial Brain, you’ll be unsurprised to learn that “Instinct” is great. It sounds kinda like a regular, old-school death metal song, if that song were drunk. To be clear: I do not mean if the musicians playing that song were drunk. I mean it sounds like the song is a high school kid enjoying his first night with a fake I.D. It keeps quickly tilting, like it’s trying very hard to remain upright. It gives the whole thing an anxious quality. “Are the lights on? Shit. Are mom and dad up? SHIT. Okay. Stay cool. They can’t tell you’re drunk. Why is the room rotating? Shh, pay attention, make sure they can’t tell you’re drunk!”
See if you can tell that “Synthesized Instinct” is hammered below. Then go pre-order Infrared Horizon here. The band is playing in Queens on March 4; go check ’em out if you can. Details are here.
