Current and Former Members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, Knife the Glitter, and More Launch New Band, John Frum
John Frum is a horrible name for a band, even when you learn its semi-insidious meaning: according to Wikipedia…
“John Frum is a figure associated with cargo cults on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu. He is often depicted as an American World War II serviceman who will bring wealth and prosperity to the people if they follow him.”
That being said, a band can be called almost anything and if their music is good, a lot of us will look the other way.
So even if I think John Frum should have called themselves almost anything else, I’m encouraged by both the band’s line-up…
- Matt Hollenberg (John Zorn, Cleric), guitar
- Eli Litwin (Intensus, Deveykus, Knife The Glitter), drums
- Derek Rydquist (ex-The Faceless), vocals
- Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Starkweather), bass
…and the music sample contained in this teaser for their debut album, A Stirring in the Noos:
Holy fuckballs, that sounds heavy. Given that the band’s lineage is so rooted in mathcore, tech, and prog, I assume it not only stays heavy, but goes somewhere completely fucknuts. They could have called this band Ira Lenkowski, CPA and I’d still wanna hear their album.
A Stirring in the Noos doesn’t have a specific release date beyond “Spring 2017” yet, but Spring 2017 is just around the corner, so expect that to change soon. We’ll let you know when it does, natch.
