Listen: The New Gruesome Song May Fragment Your Psyche
Gruesome have never made a secret of their Death worship — so I guess it makes sense that the band is following the evolutionary path of their heroes. Whereas 2015’s Savage Land and 2016’s Dimensions of Horror owed their debt to early Death releases like Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy, the band’s new song, “Fragments of Psyche,” is techier and proggier and more off-balance, like The Sound of Perseverance-era Death. Although it features guest drums by Sean Reinert, who played on Death’s Human. Additionally, the band’s new EP, also called Fragments of Psyche, includes “a ‘Humanized’ reworking of Death’s classic track “Choke On It” off of their second album, Leprosy.” So I guess Human is actually the album they’re seeking to emulate. But I’m sticking by my Sound of Perseverance assertion.
Check out “Fragments of Psyche” for yourself below and see if you think it sounds like Death’s Human or Death’s Perseverance or Hatebreed’s Perseverance or something else altogether. The EP comes out March 31 on Relapse. Pre-order it here.
