The Dillinger Escape Cancel Remainder of European Tour in Wake of Serious Bus Crash
This probably isn’t going to surprise anyone, but The Dillinger Escape Plan have been forced to cancel the remainder of their European farewell tour following this weekend’s very serious bus crash in Poland. For reasons that have not yet been reported, a truck rear-ended DEP’s tour bus, leaving thirteen people injured and the band’s gear wrecked.
Metal Insider now reports that the Polish media outlet RMF has some more intel on the story. Specifically:
- The 31-year-old truck driver suffered a broken collarbone and general bruising. He was in shock when authorities initially tried to question him, so they’re still not sure what caused the crash. His blood is being tested for drugs and alcohol, as if the blood of Dillinger’s bus driver.
- The eleven passengers on DEP’s tour bus were all hospitalized, but “their lives are not in danger,” and their injuries are mostly contusions and “obtarciach.” (I can’t figure out what “obtarciach” is and neither can Google translate, so if any Polish readers would like to chime in in the comments section, that would be swell.)
Metal Insider further reports that according to guitarist Ben Weinman…
“All the gear is destroyed and there are injuries – we are unable to continue this tour right now. The band and crew would like to thank the fans and press around the world for their concern and the Polish police and medical staff for their handling of the situation. We hope to get back to Europe soon.”
This is terrible… but it also could have been SO much worse (as we’ve seen time and time and time and time again in metal). Here’s hoping everyone in DEP has a speedy and full recovery.
