Slipknot Already Writing New Material

0

It’s only been a little over two years since Slipknot released .5 The Gray Chapter (they took six and four years, respectively, between their prior two albums) and Corey Taylor is currently ramping up for a new album and touring cycle with Stone Sour… but none of that is stopping Slipknot from starting to plan for their next album.

Guitarist Mick Thomson — who just had neck surgery — recently told Backstage Axxess in an interview (below) that the band has begun thinking about their next album:

“We just finished… We spent a long time… well, a couple of years touring, but then there was a whole year before that of writing and recording and all that shit. So we have a little break right now. I think Corey’s out doing his own stuff. Or if he isn’t, he’s about to be. So we’re gonna work on writing some shit, and we’ll be probably back out on the road after we do another record.”

Realistically there’s no way any new Slipknot music sees the light of day before 2018, but if they’re able to write an album and record it before the end of 2017, an early 2018 release would still put them well ahead of their usual pace. All of this is obviously very tentative, though, so don’t get too excited about new Slipknot just yet.

Watch the interview below. Thomson also speaks about his relationships with Seymour Duncan pickups and Jackson Guitars.
