Metallica Now Share a Billboard Chart Record with Aerosmith
Mazel tov, Metallica! The biggest metal band of all time’s latest single, “Atlas, Rise!”, has hit number one on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Songs chart. It’s the band’s ninth time occupying that particular slot… which means they are now tied with their childhood heroes in Aerosmith for the fifth-most No. 1s in the Mainstream Rock Songs chart history. They’re still six songs behind tying with all-time record holder, Van Halen, but if they manage to make start making new albums on a more regular basis before they’re finally too old for this shit (or one of them dies), who knows? Maybe they’ll get there…
In case you’re wondering, here’s the list of record holders for this particular chart:
13, Van Halen (between 1982 and 1998)
12, Three Days Grace (2004-15)
10, Tom Petty/The Heartbreakers (1981-94)
10, Shinedown (2005-16)
9, Aerosmith (1989-2001)
9, Metallica (1996-2017)
8, Linkin Park (2003-14)
8, Nickelback (2001-14)
