H.R. from Bad Brains to Undergo Brain Surgery
As you may recall, last March, legendary Bad Brains frontman H.R.(né Paul Hudson) was diagnosed with SUNCT (Short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache with conjunctival injection and tearing), a condition which randomly causes cluster headaches of such immense pain that it is often known as “Suicide Syndrome.” At the time, H.R.’s wife, Lori, noted the vocalist “began living with almost constant pain” in November of 2015, revealing that the headaches were so bad that “[H.R.] can’t work. He has no quality of life.”
Now comes some news which stinks in the short-term but will hopefully, knock on wood, help in the long-term. In a new interview with Loudwire, H.R. reveals:
“[My wife] took me to the hospital so I would learn about what was going on in my head, because I was experiencing bad headaches at the time. And the doctor came to me and he said we’re going to have a surgery.”
I don’t believe there’s any such thing as “simple” brain surgery, which is the part of this news that stinks… I mean, no one wants to go under the knife for any reason, but to have them crack open your dome and mess around in there… shudder.
The good news is that hopefully once H.R. recovers from the surgery, his headaches will be gone and he can return to having a normal life. Again — his condition is known as “Suicide Syndrome.” Most of, luckily, can only imagine the pain he’s experiencing on a regular basis.
H.R.’s surgery is scheduled for February 21. In the meantime, the crowdfunding page launched last year to help cover his medical bills is still active. Donate here.
