Hey, It’s a Metal Version of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper”
The metalsphere is ordinarily very quick to pay tribute to fallen musical heroes with covers, even of decidedly non-metal tracks. Following two high-profile deaths last year, we saw a bunch of metal covers of David Bowie and Prince songs surface from the depths of the web. But, until now, I haven’t come upon any metal versions of songs by George Michael, who died in December. Perhaps I just wasn’t looking hard enough.
Enter NXT DMNSN, whose cover of “Careless Whisper” — with its famous, sexy saxophone line played on lead guitar — is spot on. If I’m being honest the vocals here are a bit much for me, but the music is extremely well executed, and perhaps the vocals, in all their earnestness, are a good fit for George Michael’s vibe.
Check it out below. And, for old time’s sake, Sexy Sax Man’s classic prank as well.
