Shit That Comes Out Today: January 20, 2017
Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams all for your jammage. Now crank this shit up!
·
Ecferus
Shamaniacal Essence EP CD (Hellthrasher)
On a playlist with: Inquisition, Oranssi Pazuzu, Cult Of Fire
Listen Shamaniacal Essence full stream (here)
It’s not every day that a new release is described as its authors’ final release of the year. Wait, is it not their only release of the year? Actually no, in the case of Ecferus’ Shamaniacal Essence — which arrives today on CD — it’s preceded by one album, an EP, and a split. Know what else you don’t hear every day? That an instantly addictive psychedelic black metal gem’s authors hail from Indiana.
·
Endalok
Úr Draumheimi Viðurstyggðar EP (Signal Rex)
On a playlist with: Murg, Tortorum, Tomb Mold
Listen Úr Draumheimi Viðurstyggðar full stream (here)
It was only a few months ago that Endalok’s debut demo Englaryk arrived here in STCOT, so it’s understandable if you haven’t gotten around to it. It might work out in your favor actually: Get the vinyl version of their new EP and find the Englaryk demo on side B, no charge! Taken together, the two sets are equally distant and shadowy, really rough and upsetting. Crank it up!
·
Aversions Crown
Xenocide (Nuclear Blast)
On a playlist with: Whitechapel, Job For A Cowboy, Suicide Silence
Listen “Prismatic Abyss” (here) “The Soulless Acolyte” (here)
This week’s STCOT is full of surprises, not least of all the awesome guitars of Aversions Crown’s new album Xenocide. Now, the creator of those background themes and solo passages only has to sit back and wait for the rest of his band to match him.
·
As Lions
Selfish Age (Better Noise)
On a playlist with: Rise To Remain, Shvpes, Lauren Harris
Listen “White Flags” (here) “Bury My Dead” (here)
I’m madly supportive of my loved ones’ kids and their undeveloped talents. I throw money at their choirs, cookie sales, soccer teams, and birthdays. I cheer and fawn from the heart. Here, despite my love for the music and members of Iron Maiden, it’s my job to state definitively that their kids suck at metal. But things could change someday. “Prove me wrong, children!”
·
Burn Damage
Age Of Vultures (Raging Planet)
On a playlist with: Death, Sadus, Obituary
Listen Age Of Vultures full stream (here)
A bad band is one that doesn’t sound like they think they sound. But a listener can get the same feeling from a band that isn’t bad but rather conveys a vibe that you don’t get. It’s not your cup of tea but respectable, just a bit “foreign” to you. Like Burn Damage, whose choices may puzzle you but don’t obscure the strength of the band’s convictions. So you get into it eventually.
·
Riviere
Heal (Basick)
On a playlist with: Protest The Hero, Tesseract, Katatonia
Listen Heal full stream (here)
I remember a day on which I was excited to give a classmate a copy of an exciting album by an unknown band. As I handed him a burned CD (!), he laughed and wordlessly reached into his bag to produce a burned CD of the same album intended for me. And that’s what happened this week a few hours after my impressed first listen Riviere’s debut album — it premiered here on MS accompanied by these words: “Riviere have an understanding of both melody and groove … Way more challenging than meets the eye. Musicians will envy them and non-musicians will adore them.” Jinx!
