Sunlight’s Bane is Your Boon
If someone were to stick their hand in your mouth and dislocate your jaw with one good tug before pushing you into a vat of stomach acid, I imagine it would feel something like the music of Sunlight’s Bane. Listening to the deathgrind quintet’s debut album, The Blackest Volume: Like All The Earth Was Buried, is like using a bed of nails for a Slip’N Slide; not only do they grind harder than the world’s worst case of bruxism, but they write imposing elephants marching riffs that squash your skull like a cantaloupe.
In short, the music of Sunlight’s Bane is so overpoweringly punishing that they basically redeem their home state of Michigan for Kid Rock.
That’s not faint praise, obviously. So do yourself a solid and check out two tracks from The Blackest Volume below: “Begrudging Soul” (courtesy of No Clean Singing) and “Praise the Venom Shield.” The album drops February 17 on Innerstrength Records. Pre-order it here.
