Babymetal will Open for Red Hot Chili Peppers on U.S. Tour
Were you excited by the video that circulated a couple of weeks back of Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer / Will Ferrell imitator Chad Smith making a cameo with Babymetal in London to perform Judas Priest covers?
If you live in the U.S., there’s a chance of a reprise: Babymetal have just been announced as the openers on a string of dates on RHCP’s upcoming tour.
The idea of Babymetal opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers, while odd at first glance, makes a whole lot of sense when you think about it. Babymetal play pop songs done up as metal arrangements and their potential for appeal is limitless, especially with the presentation of three Japanese teenage girls dancing and singing up front. Plenty of RHCP’s now older fanbase while probably be turned off by Babymetal on site and sound, but I’m betting a larger portion will morph from horrified to intrigued to full-on fans — just as we did — before set’s end.
No word yet on whether Babymetal will join Anthony Kiedis on-stage for the mock-Asian verse of “All Around the World.”
Babymetal will open for both Metallica and Guns N’ Roses later this month. Here are their dates with RHCP:
