Vocalist Phil Lewis Quits L.A. Guns, Prepares Launch of L.A. Guns
Just when you thought the story of L.A. Guns couldn’t get any funnier: vocalist, perfumier, and racist Phil Lewis has left the band for the second time.
Lewis first left L.A. Guns in 1995. He was subsequently replaced by Chris Van Dahl, Mike Starr (Steel Panther), Joe Leste (Bang Tango, Beautiful Creatures), and Jizzy Pearl (Ratt, Love/Hate, Adler’s Appetite) before re-joining the band in 1999. Then lead guitarist/namesake Tracii Guns left the band and started his own version of L.A. Guns, which continued to compete with Lewis’ L.A. Guns until 2012, when they broke-up. Then Guns and Lewis announced they were reuniting in September. Now Lewis has split again.
Although he’s vague about his future plans, does anyone doubt that Lewis will have some Tracii Guns-free version of L.A. Guns up and running before the end of 2017 before inevitably re-re-re-merging with Tracii Guns sometime before 2027? How appropriate it is that Lewis’ last album with L.A. Guns before he quit the first time was called Vicious Circle. Clearly, this is just going to keep going ’round and ’round until either Lewis or Tracii dies.
Meanwhile, let’s start taking bets on who will be the next vocalist for Tracii Guns’ L.A. Guns. My top three picks would be Lukas Rossi, that dude who sang for Brides of Destruction, or a hologram of Jani Lane. Who are yours?
