Pelican Just Surprise-Released a Live Album
“New Pelican is a terrible thing!” said on one ever.
On top of that, Pelican have consistently been one of my favorite bands to see live over the years. Despite being instrumental, their powerful and immersive performances have a way of captivating every single body in the room and drawing even the non-believers right in.
In that spirit: the Chicago-based instrumental four piece just surprise-released a live album, Live @ Dunk!Fest 2016. The album was tracked live at the Belgian festival this past summer, and the fest’s organizers have graciously allowed the band to release it. Huzzah!
Explains the band via Facebook:
Earlier this year we played at the 16th iteration of Belgium’s Dunk!festival and it was far and away one of our favorite shows we’ve ever performed. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the show had been multitracked in order to broadcast a live stream. The festival organizers were good enough to turn over the recordings to our guitarist Dallas, who spent the next several weeks preparing a proper mix of the album with the intention of giving it away on Bandcamp. When the kind folks at Dunk!records heard the finished mixes they decided that it was worth commemorating this landmark performances as a deluxe limited edition 2xLP.
Downloads are available now, with 2xLP sets shipping next week (US / Europe). Jam it in full below!
