Exclusive Track Premiere: Rile, “Major Arcana”
Earlier this year, six unsigned bands visited a Converse Rubber Tracks recording studio in either Brooklyn, NY or Boston, MA, where they laid down some jams at one of Converse’s completely free, state-of-the-art facilities with producer Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Suicide Silence, Exhumed) or Kurt Ballou (Converge, High on Fire, Torche), respectively. Bands signed up through an open application process on MetalSucks, then Axl and Vince worked with Will and Kurt to choose their favorites. We’ll be releasing the tracks all of the finalists recorded over the next two weeks! Today, we continue with Rile from Salt Lake City, UT.
Rile are just as mysterious to us as when we previewed their CRT session with Kurt Ballou this past summer. We still haven’t met the band (no MS staffers were able to make it up to Boston to witness their carnage first hand, unfortunately), and they haven’t provided a photo to accompany this premiere — just an EP cover.
Thankfully it doesn’t really matter — who needs faces when your music rips this hard? On “Major Arcana” Rile sound more pissed than ever before, combining elements of sludge and post-hardcore to deleterious effect in a forward-thinking, progressive shell. These Arms are Snakes would be proud, and they’d also be appalled — this stuff is way heavier than anything the former ever did.
The three-song Ethereal Existence EP — which features “Major Arcana” — will come out on November 23rd.
