Avatar’s “Night Never Ending” Video Strays from the Path

It seems like a lot of bands these days are making videos which take psychedelic approaches to black magic. Beastwars did a good job with the theme, as did Uada. But both of those approaches went super-earnest and evil, giving us awesome imagery but little nuance.

Avatar’s video for “Night Without End,” however, manages to be weird, terrifying, and kind of surprising. Unlike the previous videos mentioned, it doesn’t just show us creepy black magic imagery, but it uses that darkness to tell us a kind of bizarre fairy tale about a little girl fleeing her pursuers in the woods. And if you think you know what’s going on, and you’re not terribly shaken up by it, well, just wait until the end.
