Faith No More’s “Cone of Shame” Video is Downright Sadistic
Where to begin discussing the video for Faith No More’s “Cone of Shame”? At the outset, the clip (which, incidentally, was filmed in Macedonia) seems to fall perfectly in line with the videos for which FNM is most famous — which is to say, it’s a weird mixture of elegant and goofy (kinda like the band itself, come to think of it). But then the clip takes a turn for wwwwwaaaayyyy dark and ends up being about misogyny and slut-shaming. It doesn’t really have much to do with Mike Patton’s lyrics — at least, not the way I interpret them — but it is really interesting, which is way more than I can say for most music videos these days.
Check out the clip below. The song is from Faith No More’s Sol Invictus, which is out now. According to the video’s press release, “A limited edition ‘Cone of Shame’ 7-inch will be available on Nov. 25 with pre-orders available soon.”
