Video: Alice in Chains Invite Fan On Stage to Play Drums for “Would?”

0

When frontman Greg Puciato’s flight from LA to Virginia to play the seventh annual GWAR-B-Q last month was canceled, The Dillinger Escape Plan had planned to play an instrumental set until a fan in the audience, Dylan Lawson, scrawled “Let me do a song with you, I know them all!” on the back of his ticket and held it up in the air. The band invited him up and let him handle vocal duties for not one, but TWO songs, and by all accounts he positively killed it.

Alice in Chains employed a similar tactic in Charleston, SC on September 20th, but theirs might be even more badass than Dillinger’s: all four members of the band were perfectly healthy and in the building, but they decided to give a fan a shot anyway simply because he asked nicely.

AIC superfan and drummer Kurt Friedenberger held a t-shirt up for most of the show which read “Let me play drums on Would?!” The band played the entire show, but Kurt persisted; they came back out for an encore and performed two more songs, then finally invited Kurt up on stage for the set-closer after AIC drummer Sean Kinney ceded his throne.

And the guy fucking nailed it! Not without a couple mistakes along the way, but I’m beyond impressed he was able to keep his composure while up on stage with one of the most legendary rock bands of all time, in front of thousands of people, no less, and do as good of a job as he did getting through the entire song. So fucking cool. Hats off to you, sir! And to AIC for letting Kurt’s dream come true.
