Black Table Take the “Helm” When it Comes to Brutal Music
Black Table’s first full-length album, Obelisk, is coming out October 14th. Considering it’s been a little over four years since their last EP, I think it’s safe to say that this release is highly anticipated by fans of their sound. And fans won’t feel let down by the band’s new single, “Helm,” which takes Black Table’s undeniably brutal musical approach to new heights.
Black Table have managed to create a crushing amalgamation of some of the heaviest music that exists in this day and age, a fusion of death, doom, and crust. It’s more than just an experiment in extreme genres, though; it’s a testament to the way those genres can be mixed and molded into something unique in and of itself.
The way the song begins — artfully placing woeful doom tones before the oncoming march of blistering instrumentation — is fantastic. And when the track explodes, around the one-minute mark, it doesn’t release its grip until its somber conclusion. I loved it from start to finish.
