Seems Like Danzig Doesn’t Want The Misfits to Write a New Album, Either
A few weeks ago, I wrote that while I was happy and excited about the classic Misfits line-up reuniting, I didn’t want them to put out a new album, fearing that it would be a whole lot of hype and not much to show for it in the ways of memorable tunes. Some commenters agreed with me, but plenty kept their blinders on, saying they would love to hear Danzig’s new ideas, and how dare I tell someone not to be creative, blah blah fucking blah.
Except I’m not alone, because it doesn’t sound like Glenn Danzig himself is especially stoked by the idea. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Danzig said the following:
“If there’s going to be another Misfits record, I’d probably have to write the stuff… And I’ve got a full plate, so I don’t know.”
Of course, that might be Danzig’s way of saying, Let’s see how substantial a check the record company would be willing to write me — but I sort of doubt it. Danzig’s been doing his own thing, which is discernibly different from the Misfits’ horror-punk thing, for some times now. That he would just drop it all to rehash a band he left behind three decades ago just doesn’t seem like what the guy’s about. Say what you want about Danzig (we certainly will!), but you can’t deny that he holds himself to a personal standard.
Anyway, we’ll see if Glenn eats his words with a bowl of French onion soup in the near future. Otherwise, you’ll just have to listen to Walk Among Us again. Yeah, I know, what a chore.
