Megadeth: Lamb of God’s Chris Adler Suggested Greg Burgess from Allegaeon for the Lead Guitarist Position
On last week’s episode of The MetalSucks Podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking with Greg Burgess, guitarist for Allegaeon. If for some reason you’re not familiar with Allegaeon, well, let us tell you, this dude can play. And lest you doubt us, keep this in mind: Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler thinks so highly of Burgess that he suggested the guitarist to Dave Mustaine when Mustaine was still seeking a replacement for Chris Broderick.
Burgess recounted for us this text exchange with Adler:
“He’s like, ‘I put you up for something pretty special. When it happens, just know it came from me.’ And I was like, ‘Cool! We going on tour, dude?’ And he was like, ‘Well, no… I can’t tell you, it’s not my place, just don’t be shocked when it comes.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, but you really can’t tell me?’ And he sends me the ‘Radioactive’ Megadeth solo from Rust in Peace. And I’m sick, so I was like, is this news ‘radioactive’?” And then he just sends [a text message] with Megadeth… and I threw up, like, immediately.”
Of course, Mustaine ended up hiring Angra’s Kiko Loureiro… but still, can you think of any recommendation more glowing than telling Dave Mustaine, “Hey, consider hiring this guy”? Neither can we!
Elsewhere in the interview, Greg discussed the cost of hiring Bill Nye to be Allegaeon’s music video, the band’s new album, recording at Tim Lambesis’ studio, and much, much more. Listen here.
