Listen to Metallica’s “Hardwired” Played with the Guitar Sounds of Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax

A lot of the time, things like production value and all that magical technical studio craft is just a lot of commotion to me that doesn’t matter so long as the song shreds. But even I, having listened to so much metal in my life, can identify a band’s distinct guitar tone by ear alone.

Which is why this video by YouTuber Matteus Elildo so surprised and delighted me. Elildo plays Metallica’s new single “Hardwired” with the guitar tones of Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, and man does he nail them! The Pantera tone is kind of hard to hear, as that’s a very chuggy tone that’s kind of drowned out by drums at the track’s beginning, but the other three are spot on (the Anthrax tone is especially amazing in my opinion).

Check out the video below. Hopefully, Elildo will broaden his genre spectrum on future videos; it would be awesome to hear, say, a Metallica song with a Darkthrone tone.
