System of a Down are Up to Something That Involves Playing Drums!
In May, System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian announced that the band was “communicating” about making new music, which could mean anything from booking rehearsal spaces to someone sending him a text saying, “new SOAD u down? ;-)”
But yesterday, SOAD bassist Shavo Oldadjian posted the following to his Instagram, which, between the photo and the hashtags involved, appears to suggest that new SOAD material may be closer than we think:
HMMMM! Veeeery interesting.
The PRP makes a point of mentioning that the kit drummer John Dolmayan is playing isn’t mic’d, so what we’re seeing is most likely either a writing session or a rehearsal. That said, it definitely seems to suggest that there’s something in the works for SOAD; worst-case scenario is that this is a tour rehearsal, in which case, awesome, SOAD on tour!
We’ll let you know if we hear anything further, but don’t be surprised if a new System album is announced in the near future. If this is practice for something like a charity drum-off, I’ll be super disappointed.
