Devin Townsend is Busy “Stormbending” in New Single

Eight days, count ’em — EIGHT DAYS — until the new Townsend album is out. Are you hype? I’m pretty hype, but I’m a huge Townsend fan. The guy is just so damn likable and his music tends to do a great job of balancing the scales of hard rock and pop. I haven’t loved all his work, but from what I’ve heard off the upcoming album I can definitely say that my body is ready for this.

With that being said, Heavy Devy has released a new single called “Stormbending.” It’s a fun little jaunt through the concept of memory and time, featuring the signature wall of overwhelming sound that Townsend is known for. It flips between heavy and light, both in terms of instruments and vocals but it never stops being gorgeous or playful. The track’s atmosphere left me thinking about my own experiences. Isn’t that ultimately what art is meant to do, leave you thinking about and feeling things you otherwise wouldn’t have? If so this track is on par with the way Porcupine Tree’s “Time Flies” made me honestly contemplate my life when I heard it for the first time years ago.
