WSOU Picks of the Week: Anaal Nathrakh, Allegaeon, Sodom
Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. It’s also streamable online from anywhere in the world! Each week, the staff of WSOU shares their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as the station’s charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:
Anaal Nathrakh – “Depravity Favours The Bold” (Steve V)
I dare you to find a duo consistently as mind numbing as Anaal Nathrakh. Their new single, “Depravity Favours The Bold,” stays true to their harsh (and often otherworldly) approach to black metal they’ve had going for nearly 20 years now. While the track isn’t breaking any new ground, it reassures the listener the end is nowhere in sight. Now all we need is a tour announcement! Their 9th record, The Whole of the Law, is due out October 28th via Metal Blade Records.
Allegaeon – “Subdivisions” (Mike C)
Rush are not an easy band to cover by any means, but Allegaeon definitely pull it off. New vocalist Riley McShane’s voice fits the song surprisingly well! (Although he’s no Geddy Lee, of course). Overall, I thought this cover was really well done. Be on the lookout for the rest of their upcoming album Proponent For Sentience, out September 23rd on Metal Blade.
Sodom – “Rolling Thunder” (Dylan G)
Classic thrashers, Sodom, released their single “Rolling Thunder” the other day and I am blown away as usual. It’s coming off of their 15th album, Decision Day which sports some of the coolest album artwork I have seen in a while.
