Nickelback Cover Don Henley to Create the Ultimate Provocation of Elitist Nerd Rage

There’s an argument to be made that The Eagles were the Nickelback of their time: a band that was simultaneously immensely popular and intensely despised (Chuck Klosterman once called The Eagles “the most unpopular super-popular entity ever created by California, not counting Ronald Reagan”). Now, honestly, I don’t think that’s fair to The Eagles — I’ve never heard “Hotel California” or “Life in the Fast Line” and thought, “Gee, now might be a good time for me to walk into traffic” — but the parallels between the public perception of the two bands is undeniable.

So there’s something wholly appropriate about Nickelback covering “Dirty Laundry” from 1982’s I Can’t Stand Still, a solo album by The Eagles’ vocalist/drummer, Don Henley. You’d almost think Nickelback were actively courting nerd rage. The irony, of course, being that this is probably the best thing Nickelback have ever recorded simply by virtue of having not written it.

You can listen below. The single is out now on all the usual digital outlets.
