Listen to 130 Russians Cover Linkin Park’s “What I’ve Done” in a Public Park

I’ve covered Rockin’ 1000 — a group that gathers musicians together in public to perform covers — in the past, and after enjoying the spectacle of the last bunch of events they’ve hosted I specifically said the following:

“This should be everywhere. Come on, Rockin’ 1,000, let’s get this happening worldwide.”

I immediately regret my statement.

Recently around 130 musicians got together in Moscow’s Gorky Park to cover Linkin Park’s hit “What I’ve Done” as part of a ‘Rocknmob’ event. Seems innocent enough, right? Wrong.

How much longer do we have to be the victims of listening to this overplayed tripe? The track came out in 2007 for chrissakes. I’m not a huge fan of LP to begin with, but I think most people that grew up in the early 2000s had at least some sliver of appreciation for Hybrid Theory in some way, shape, or form… before we all got sick of nu-metal and decided it needed to be banished. Why not cover something from that album if you’re dead set on doing something by Linkin Park?

This isn’t a gripe against the folks featured in the video. They certainly look like they’re having a good time, enjoying the opportunity to play with a lot of other like-minded participants that just want an opportunity to jam out. I can’t fault them for that. They did a great job with the source material. But maybe in the future we can get some better songs? There’s a whole catalog of fantastic rock tunes to choose from, so let’s not make it something that is overplayed iHeartRadio nonsense.
