Here’s a Metal Cover of the “Stranger Things” Theme Song
MetalGF and I just started watching the ’80s sci-fi thriller TV series Stranger Things. We just finished the third episode… no spoilers please!!!
Among the many things I enjoy about the show — those kids are so cute, OMG, especially the toothless one! — is the ’80s-inspired synth soundtrack, my love of which shouldn’t surprise any of you that’ve been following my Synthwave Sunday column for the past year-plus. The music, created by recent Relapse Records signees SURVIVE, is not only true to the era, but extremely well done. Like the grand-daddy of all ’80s slasher film soundtracks, Sir John Carpenter himself, SURVIVE have quite the knack for creating drama with their poignant use of analog synths. Fully expect SURVIVE’s upcoming album RR7349 to get the Synthwave Sunday treatment soon enough.
This being the Internet in the year 2016, there’s now a metal of the Stranger Things theme song done by YouTuber LittleVMills and brought to our attention by Gear Gods. And it’s good! I think it does a fine job of keeping the creepiness of the original intact while, duh, making it sound metal. Check it out below.
