Jennifer Lynch Signs Onto New Film Named Hellfest That Has Nothing to do with Hellfest
Earlier today, when I saw that Jennifer Lynch (director of Boxing Helena, multiple episodes of The Walking Dead and Teen Wolf, and yes, daughter of David Lynch) was directing a movie called Hellfest, I had a slight conniption of joy. Could this be an awesome horror movie set at France’s premier metal festival or the once-great East Coast metal and hardcore festival?
The bad news is, it’s not — according to Bloody Disgusting, Hellfest is in fact about a costumed killer picking off people at a horror theme park on Halloween. The good news is, it’s a movie about a costumed killer picking off people at a horror theme park on Halloween.
However, I can’t help but wonder if this is somehow a legal issue. Hellfest Open Air is in its tenth year now, and is pretty well-established in international circles. When you Google ‘Hellfest,’ the festival is the first thing that comes up. Did no one at CBS Films think that using the name for a movie unrelated to music, metal, or the festival would be a conflict of interest? Couldn’t they have named the movie anything else — ‘Horrorfest’ or ‘Hallowfest’ or something? Do the people behind Hellfest know the name is being ganked for a horror movie (I mean, now they do)?
We’ll see if anyone on either side of the project cares. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to make a horror movie about a killer terrorizing a metal festival, just know that I have on-camera experience, and yes, I am free.
