Exclusive Song + Video Premiere: Black Table’s “Obtuse”
Back in May in May, we reported NYC Sucks alum Black Table would be releasing new music this year for the first time since 2012. Well, great news: MetalSucks can now exclusively reveal that the band’s new offering, Obelisk, will arrive October 14 via Silent Pendulum Records in the U.S. and Moment of Collapse Record in Europe!
This news alone would be cause enough for celebration, but here’s the cherry on top: we can also offer you your first taste of the album in the form of first single “Obtuse” and its Brendan McGowan-directed video! “Obtuse” is a prime example of Black Table’s speciality: proggy, blackened metal with just a soupçon of grindy mathcore reminiscent of drummer Michael Kadnar’s other band, The Number Twelve Looks like you (he’s also also in Downfall of Gaia). But “Obtuse” also demonstrates an admirable creative evolution on the band’s part: it sounds warmer, grimier, and more focused than Black Table’s prior output, like a puddle of boiled oil full of broken glass. See how the band’s members are almost completely caked in ink-black dirt in their band photo? That’s how listening to “Obtuse” will make you feel. Well, that and concussed. Just make sure you listen to this song while near a shower. And have a friend nearby to help you get in and out of that shower without falling down.
Once you’ve done that… check out “Obtuse” below! Like we said, Obelisk will be out October 14. The album was recorded at The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Backroom Studios, mixed by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis, Sleep, High on Fire, Leviathan), and mastered by Colin Marston (Krallice, Kayo Dot, Agalloch). Keep your eyes peeled to Black Table’s Facebook and Bandcamp pages for pre-order info!!!
