Sleep’s Dopesmoker is Now a Retro Video Game
Man, Sleep’s Dopesmoker has officially become the new favorite album art of a new generation of metalheads, with the desert-dwelling Weedian among the genre’s most loved mascots. Last year, a Weedian toy was made. Now, the band will join bands like Iron Maiden, Motörhead, and Torche by having a video game produced that’s based on the album.
The game is an endless runner in which you play the Weedian and his caravan and trek across the endless deserts of Weedistan or wherever the fuck they’re supposed to be. You can play an early version here to get the basic concepts and mechanics of the game, as well as hear the 8-bit version of Sleep’s classic track. And as you can see from the image above, things will get more interesting as the game becomes more developed.
Personally, I’m not entirely sure why I would play a Sleep video game… but that’s because it’s 8:00am here in Denver. Give me until three in the afternoon, when I’ll be baked as fuck, and then I’ll probably update this post describing how this the greatest piece of entertainment ever created.
