Iron Maiden’s Wacken Open Air Performance To Be Streamed Globally
Iron Maiden’s gigantic Book of Souls tour ends next weekend at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany. Which is saying something, given that the announcement was made almost a year ago.
As a way of giving fans everywhere not only a chance to say goodbye to Maiden after this arduous trek, but also a chance to see them level an audience of 85,000, Maiden will livestream the performance globally.
Heeeeeeell yes.
Maiden manager Ron Smallwood said the following about the event:
“Everywhere we’ve played, the fans have been amazing and the reaction to the new songs and stage show has been phenomenal. The band has loved every minute on stage. So when Wacken and ARTE asked us to consider a livestream of our performance there, we jumped at the chance to give our fans an end of tour gift.
“Streaming this final show live globally allows us to thank the many fans we played to so far, and, for those who couldn’t get to see us this time round, a chance to see just how spectacular the live concert is and what they missed!”
Man, Maiden have been great about being real with their fans on this tour, right down to actually talking about the band’s censorship with their Chinese fans. That they’re giving everyone a chance to see this massive show live is a solid move.
Also, while I know some of our readers disagree, I’m really into this practice of livestreaming big events in metal, as was done with Lemmy’s memorial. Metal’s diehards often exist in places and situations where being part of an event like, say, a massive festival in Germany isn’t always possible. Livestreaming events allows them to be part of the experience.
Maiden’s performance will be streaming at 9:30pm CT on Thursday, August 4th. You can watch it here or here.
