Slipknot’s Guitarist Jim Root Discusses Depression with The You Rock Foundation

0

Suicidal thoughts are can plague us when we’re at our lowest, but there are those that can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel and need help finding a way out of the darkness. The You Rock Foundation is a cause all of us here at Metal Sucks stand behind fervently: by teaming up with prominent modern metal artists, the foundation produces videos that offer people dealing with depression an opportunity to see that they’re not alone. In the past You Rock has spoken with Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), and Ben Weinman (Dillinger Escape Plan), each offering their own stories and direction.

The latest video features Jim Root (Slipknot) as he sits down for an intimate, unmasked discussion of his bouts with depression. He’s apt to mention that even though he’s lucky enough to be in the position he’s in he still battles “the dark side of [his] mind” daily. He offers up some advice on how to stay out of your own head, how to avoid becoming “locked” in dark thoughts, and how he’s grown over the years. Ultimately he suggests ways to regain to control of life, mind, and willpower by keeping occupied with positive outlets. Pretty poignant words.

It’s clear that The You Rock Foundation goes out of its way to prove that no matter the circumstances everyone deserves a chance to be happy. Check out the video below and if you like their message visit their supporting site, the Crisis Text Line, for more ways to help cope and to find out how you can volunteer to make someone else’s life better.
