Metal Cellist Helen Money Returns with New Track “Become Zero”

0

We’ve previously sung the praises of Helen Money, the metal alter-ego of cellist Alison Chesley. Money utilizes an array of effects pedals to create lush soundscapes of dark, ethereal music that’s heavy in both sonic texture and mood; when we saw her live with Author & Punisher, her music hit really, really hard. It’s just as intense on record, too.

Money returns this September with a new album, Become Zero, collaborating once again with drummer Jason Roeder (Sleep, Neurosis), pianist Rachel Grimes and co-producer Will Thomas (who provides sound effects and samples). The title track from the album is now available for streaming via Spotify, and it’s got all the elements we loved in the past about Money’s music — it’s moody, it’s entrancing, it’s propulsive, and it’s dramatic. I’m excited to hear how this sound shakes out and varies over the course of a full-length album.

Check out “Become Zero” below. The album of the same name comes out September 16th via Thrill Jockey.
