Black Crown Initiate Believe in the Healing Power of Crystals in the “Selves We Cannot Forgive” Video

Black Crown Initiate have quickly gone from a band who were inexplicably on every tour ever to a considerable force to be reckoned with. Our own Phil Boozeman was a big fan of their new album, Selves We Cannot Forgive. One thing that has perhaps changed the band’s trajectory has been their focus on more experimental sounds, mixing melancholy death metal with spacey prog.

A perfect example of this is the video for the title track of the band’s new album. Sure, it has plenty of classic death metal tropes in it, like a strange pale man-creature, a hole full of skeletons, and the rusted-over post-apocalypse, but it also has purple crystals that show you the way to the earth’s renewal or some such bullshit. Meanwhile, you’d think the song is by a really far-out prog band right up until the guttural vocals come it.
