Video: Rob Halford And Babymetal Perform Together at AP Music Awards

Last night at the Alternative Press Awards we were treated to something special: Babymetal and Rob Halford on stage together performing Judas Priest’s “Painkiller” and “Breaking The Law.” There’s nothing quite like watching Halford perform with another singer with a high-pitched voice; it’s like they’re having a HYEEEEAAAAHHHH-off and whoever bursts the most ear drums wins.

It’s definitely a little weird seeing “Painkiller” come out of instruments played by Babymetal’s Kami Band instead of from the dudes in Judas Priest wearing half the world’s supply of leather. I will say, however that over the course of the years the opening drum line to “Painkiller” always puts a smile on my face no matter where I hear it. Even if it’s played terribly — and it definitely isn’t here, the performance was great — it still makes me happy to know that somewhere in this world someone is playing an instrument because of a bunch of guys wearing leather pants. But I suppose that’s all of rock n’ roll, really.
