Listen: Tides Of Sulfur’s Hideous Sludge Extinction

One of the great experiences only available to metal people is the moment when a slow hideous sludge song gets insane and fast. In “Maltheist,” a new jam by Tides Of Sulfur, that moment is huge, like the scene in a nauseating movie in which the wretched gelatinous death blob suddenly darts at somebody’s crotch or a protagonist contracts HIV. Like one of those Tim Duncan post moves where everybody kinda knows what’s about to happen but that knowledge isn’t means enough to prevent anything; it’s awesome and terrifying.
